The Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a resolution urging Governor Willie Obiano to direct the Commissioner for Culture, Tourism and Diaspora Affairs and any other relevant agency to rehabilitate the Ogba cave at Owerre- Ezukala in Orumba South Local Area for tourism purposes.
The House passed the resolution following a motion of urgent public importance sponsored to that effect by the member representing Orumba South Constituency, Honourable Emma Nwafor during plenary.
While describing tourism as one of the major revenue drives for most developed nations, the lawmaker revealed that the cave can generate huge revenue to the State if major facilities are put in place.
Chief Whip and member representing Njikoka Two Constituency, Sir Pete Ibida, member representing Anaocha Two Constituency, Hon. Ejike Okechukwu and member representing Nnewi North Constituency, Hon. Nonso Okafor in there separate submissions expressed passion for Ogba cave because of its potential. They maintained that it will be a tourist site for the world if it is rehabilitated.
“Tourism is the main source of revenue generation for most African and European countries. We appealed to Governor Obiano to rehabilitate the cave to improve the revenue profile of the State.
“Anambra state government needs to diversify into tourism to attract foreign exchange to the State and ease pressure on forex”.
Anambra Speaker, Rt Hon. Uche Okafor expressed confidence that Governor Obiano will rise to the occasion by implementing the motion.
