Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has condemned the hike by the Nigerian Government of ex-depot price from N147.67 per liter to N155.17 per liter.

SERAP is calling on the President Muhamadu Buhari led government to reverse the fuel pump price to N147.67 per litre.

The group posits that yesterday’s hike was the fourth in a row within one year.

They implied that the incessant hike in pump price was spewing untold hardship on Nigerians.

“With the latest hike by the Petroleum Products Marketing Company, a subsidiary government owned Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), petrol price has increased by about four times in 2020.”

“It had risen from N121.50 to N123.50 per litre in June and N140.80 to N143.80 in July and N148 to N150 in August.”

In a tweet, Saturday morning, SERAP said a frequent hike in fuel was entirely inconsistent with the Nigerian constitution and international obligations and must be immediately reversed.

“We condemn hike yesterday by Nigeria Government of Ex-depot price from N147.67 per litre to N155.17 per litre.”

“A frequent hike in fuel is entirely inconsistent with the Nigerian constitution and international obligations and must be immediately reversed.”

SERAP stressed that the constitution of the country provides that Nigeria’s resources should be used to ensure the maximum welfare of Nigerians.

“According to the Nigerian constitution 1999, Nigeria’s resources should be used to ensure the maximum welfare, prosperity, freedom and happiness of every citizen on the basis of social justice and equality, and not to finance a life of luxury for politicians.” SERAP tweeted.
