Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo says the federal government is looking into raising money to renovate the Lagos airport.
As he clarified a story that he claimed misconstrued his comments at a stakeholders’ meeting held in Lagos on February 28, Keyamo disclosed the idea on Monday.
The minister allegedly stated that President Bola Tinubu is concentrating on finding the money to renovate the Murtala Muhammed International Airport rather than concessioning it.
He denied the interpretation, though, in a post on X, pointing out that the concessioning procedure is still open even if the government is raising money for the airport’s renovation.

“This headline is not a reflection of my speech at the Stakeholders’ forum held in Lagos last Friday,” the minister said.
“What I said is that the federal government is considering sourcing for funds to refurbish the Lagos International Airport.
“The model of funding is yet to be finalised, but even if the Federal Government invests its own funds in rehabilitation, it does not stop the concessioning of the airport for the purpose of proper running and management.”

To maintain openness, Keyamo stated on May 27, 2024, that the federal government was examining the concession procedure for the airports.
According to him, a master plan for the nation’s major airports is being developed by his government.
As to the minister, the president has given his approval for the major airports’ concession procedure to be reviewed in order to ensure that they meet international standards.
