Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos will temporarily close runway 18R/36L for maintenance, according to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
Obigeli Orah, director of public affairs and consumer protection, said in a statement on Sunday that the runway’s renovation is a part of continuous efforts to keep it in top condition.
“The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria wishes to inform the general public that there would be a temporary closure of Runway 18R/36L at Murtala Muhammed Airport Lagos from the 03:00Hrs of 3rd of March 2025 23:59Hrs of 4th March 2025,” the statement reads.
“The closure is due to ongoing rehabilitation work (asphalt phase) at the A2 Taxiway-link of the runway.”

Because all planes would be diverted to the alternate runway 18L/36R during that time, Orah promised that flight operations would not be affected.
The director emphasised the authority’s dedication to its basic values of safety, security, and passenger satisfaction.
FAAN’s managing director, Olubunmi Kuku, stated on January 15 that N580 billion is required to repair airport runways around the nation.
