The Sector Commander Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State, Andrew Kumapayi, has called on road users to overtake only when necessary to minimize road crashes.
His call is following a road accident which left nine passengers injured at Igbariam, opposite Micado Factory along Awka- Nteje- Onitsha express way.
The traffic crash involved a Toyota hiace bus belonging to Onitsha South Transport Company with registration number BDG 313 XQ and a Lexus Jeep with registration number AWK 71 EX.
An Eyewitness told our correspondent that the crash occurred as a result of excessive speeding and wrongful overtaking.
A total of 18 persons comprising 11 male adults and seven female adults were involved in the accident.
Nine persons, five male adults and four female adults who sustained varying degree of injuries were rushed to FRSC Clinic Nteje by the rescue team from Nteje Unit Command while obstruction is being cleared.
No life was lost to the accident.
The FRSC Sector Commander who spoke to The Union Nigeria wished the injured victims quick recovery and warned motorists to desist from excessive speeding and abide by the speed limits set by law.
“More so, overtaking should be done when it is absolutely necessary and safe to do so, as road traffic Crashes are avoidable.” He said.
