Bishop David Oyedepo has told his congregation that they are not philanthropists. He said this during the Covenant Hour of Prayer meeting, as he dismissed the congregation.
He made this statement because of the upcoming welfare outreach the church will be embarking on this Saturday, in line with the Operation Change of Story campaign ongoing.
In case you didn’t know, it was announced on Sunday, that the members of the Living Faith Church, should donate clothes, shoes, food items, and other necessary materials, that would be given to the poor and less privileged on Saturday, as the church will be embarking on a welfare outreach.
The Bishop declared that the things they will be giving out will just be baits to get the attention of the people in the street, so they can share the gospel to them, because sharing the gospel is the most important thing a Christian should be doing.
“There is no joy in heaven when you distribute welfare materials to the less privileged,” the Bishop said.
“The Bible says that there is joy in heaven when a soul repents. We are not philanthropists doing philanthropic activities; we are foot soldiers sharing the gospel of Christ.”
“The Bishop is taking the same approach the missionaries, who brought the gospel to the villages in Africa took.
“They built schools where they taught the children for free, and they built hospitals where they gave out free health services. But all those were to create an opening where they preached the gospel to the people of Africa.
“It’s like killing two birds with one stone. You solve the physical and material needs of the people with the philanthropic deeds, and the spiritual needs of the people with the gospel that you bring.
“However, these philanthropic activities should not distract a Christian from their primary assignment, which is to go into the whole world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”
