If you haven’t seen Kayode Kasum’s film “Afamefuna”, currently showing on Netflix, then you would be missing out on a premium story.
“Afamefuna, A Nwa-Boi boy” explains the Igbo entrepreneurial program, whereby young men learn a trade by serving their masters who in turn settles them after some years of service.
In this film, a young ambitious Afamefuna (Stanze Nze) comes to Lagos to serve his master Odogwu(Kanaya O. Kanayo) who sells building materials. It is in Lagos, he meets Paul (Alexx Ekubo) who is a senior colleague. They form a bond; however, their future together is scattered by greed, jealousy and blackmail.

Cinematography is top notch; the producers left no stone unturned with good lightnings. Aerial view of the Apapa wharf, marketplace truly explained that the producers meant business. Not forgeting that the picture quality was also impeccable.
The actors also ate their roles. Everyone brought their A-game with their script interpretation and mannerisms. We loved how Stanze Nze metaphors from the young naive Afamefuna to a wealthy businessman who works hard for his money and protect those who he loves.
Alexx Ekubo on the other hand is the villain who is determined to bring down his friend. He dumps the spirit of brotherhood and would do anything to bring down his friend. His jealous and greed will ultimately lead to his death.
Odogwu (Kanayo. O. Kanayo) came as a father shielding his boys, teaching them business, however, fails to see when strife and jealousy breeds under his watch.
This film will make you laugh, think deep, and celebrate the uniqueness of the Igbo culture in all its originality.
